Cox’s Bazar Technical School and College
About Cox’s Bazar Technical School and College
In a serene environment surrounded by greenery, this institution is located on 3.1 acres of land beside the Main Road in Rumaliarchhara, 3 kilometers east of Laboni Point on the Cox’s Bazar sea beach in the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar. Construction of the institution’s infrastructure began in the 1960s and was completed in the late 1960s. Before the start of academic activities, the institution remained abandoned for a long time.
In 1971, the Bangladesh Liberation War against Pakistan began. During the war, local freedom fighters stayed at this institution. The institution played an important role during the Liberation War. After nine months of war, victory was achieved on December 16, 1971. Following Bangladesh’s independence, the abandoned building was occupied in phases by the Allied Forces and the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) until 1973.
In 1973, the institution started its journey with only two trades under the name “Vocational Training Institute,” accommodating a total of 40 trainees (20+20). The two trades were: (1) Radio & TV, which is now known as General Electronics, and (2) Automobile, which is now called Automotive.
In 2003, the name “Vocational Training Institute” was changed to “Technical School and College.” Currently, the institution offers three academic programs:
-
JSC (Vocational) – covering grades 6, 7, and 8
-
SSC (Vocational) – covering grades 9 and 10
-
HSC (Vocational) – covering grades 11 and 12
The total number of students across these classes is approximately 1,300. In addition, a short course on Motor Driving with Basic Maintenance is conducted in two shifts. Inside the institution, there is also a large playground.
